Frankincense, also known as olibanum, is an aromatic natural resin obtained from trees of the genus Boswellia in the family Burseraceae.
There are a number of subspecies of Boswellia.

Myrrh is the gum of the tree species Commiphora myrrha. The raw material myrrh origins in the region around the Gulf of Aden: Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. Myrrh is called “Molmol” in the Somali language. Hence, the tree species from which it is harvested is sometimes also called Commiphora molmol.
Myrrh is harvested trough an incision into the trees. The gum exudes from the tapped cut and is collected by farmers. The myrrh gum is cleaned and the sorted by color, size, grade of purity and origin. The main quality marker of myrrh is its odor.
The raw material Myrrh consists of small, bright to dark, brownish to red gum lumps. These lumps have a pleasant smell.
Myrrh is composed to a big part of water soluble gum. The raw material is valued for the small amounts of essential oils. These can be extracted by steam distillation.
Myrrh is most commonly used in the creation of fragrances because of its variety in essential oils. These oils are also the reason for the use of myrrh in traditional medicine and for religious rites in many cultures. The effect of the essential oils on the human body is slowly shifting into the scientific focus, where it is examined and studied under laboratory conditions.
NaturalgumsXL has a long standing history as supplier of the raw material Myrrh. We purchase our Myrrh from different suppliers, to ensure that the demands of our customers are met, to ensure highest quality at all times and to guarantee short delivery times.

A brief description
We would like to share our enthusiasm for gum arabic with you. There is no chemically synthesised product that can offer the unique properties and multi-faceted functionality of this natural gum. We aim to provide our customers from the food and pharmaceutical industry with ready-to-use grades while ensuring secure supply and excellent service. That is our goal.
Due to its low viscosity, gum arabic has a solubility rate in water of up to 50%, which gives it an outstanding position among the natural hydrocolloids. Acacia gum is both taste- and odourless, and can be used for a great number of applications because it binds, stabilises, and protects.
As a result of its prebiotic properties, there is an ever-increasing demand for gum arabic as a functional ingredient. Gum arabic is composed of more than 85% of the natural fibre Arabinogalactan and is completely soluble in water.
It is this property that makes the polysaccharide the perfect partner for the food industry. Gum arabic has a low energy content and can be used to partially replace fat or sugar and thus help to meet consumer demands with regard to healthy nutrition.

The call for more natural processed foodstuffs is growing ever louder. Gum arabic is a natural, GMO-free substance that is cultivated without the use of fertilisers or pesticides. Food producers are becoming more and more interested in aspects such as „Green Labelling“. By using gum arabic, producers have a clear advantage and are able to positively influence purchasing decisions. Of course we also supply certified organic grades (DE-ÖKO-005).
Gum arabic is the hardened sap of the Acacia senegal tree, and other related species. These acacia trees grow in the Savanna of the African Sahel. The so-called “Gum Belt” spans the entire continent of Africa. It starts in Senegal and ends in Somalia. Acacia gum is normally harvested in the dry season between November and April. Due to the fact that the Acacia trees form a natural wind barrier that helps combat the expansion of the Sahara, gum arabic is a particularly sustainable product. During the harvest season, gum arabic provides a source of income for up to 5 million people in the Sahel. As a result of its importance, the tree population is maintained by the inhabitants and because acacias are legumes, they enrich the region’s poor soil with nitrogen. Our spray-dried powders are produced in Germany in accordance with the highest quality standards.

A brief description
Geographic and botanical origin
Opoponax Gum is a pleasant smelling botanical resin that has similarities to Myrrh gum. It is harvested in northeastern Africa: producing countries are Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Eritrea. Opoponax gum is also known as bisabol, hadi and sweet myrrh.
The exact botanical origin of Opoponax gum is unprecise due to historical confusion. In antiquity, Opoponax was the name given to tree gum of the genus Opopanax, especially the gum of the tree species Opopanax chironium that is endemic to southern Europe.
Nowday, customary Opoponax Gum designates the gum of the tree species Commiphora guidottii. It is also known as “Hadi” in the countries of origin. The gum of the tree species Commiphora erythraea is often also sold as Opoponax even though it has a very different odor. This gum is called “Hagar” by the locals.
Harvest and Processing
Opoponax is harvested by tapping of the Commiphora trees. The gum then exudes from the cut in the tree and is collected by the farmers. Further processing steps include cleaning, sorting and grading. The main grading factor is the odor. Opoponax gum has a sweeter fragrance than myrrh gum, hence its label “sweet myrrh”.
Sensory and phytochemical composition
The raw material Opononax Gum consists of small, dark, brown to yellowish gum lumps. The Gum has a sweet odor.
Opoponax Gum contains water soluble gum and a small fraction of essential oils. These oils are extracted from the raw gum trough steam distillation. The main component of these precious oils is bisabolene. Due to this chemical compound Opoponax gum is often labeled “bisabol”.
Traditional and industrial applications
Opoponax gum is primarily used in the fragrance industry because of its variety of essential oils. The essential oils are also the reason for the application of Opoponax gum in traditional medicine in many cultures. The effects of this raw material on the human body are slowly shifting into the scientific focus, where it is examined and studied under laboratory conditions.
